The Norwegian selection process
- Candidate reports place Norwegian questions at these stages: Online aptitude and knowledge tests, Assessment day, Group exercise, HR interview, Panel interview, Simulator assessment, Reported stage not specified.
- Airlines change their selection often — treat this as what recent candidates report, not an official syllabus.
Reported Norwegian interview questions
Every item below is something a candidate reported being asked — no invented questions. Where the report carried a role or year, it is shown.
Online aptitude and knowledge tests
- Maths items candidates report in the pre-selection battery: '0.79 x 1000'; 'De-icing fluid consists of 75% glycol and 25% water — how much de-icing fluid can you make from 210 L glycol?'; 'An aircraft travels 500 km/h, 1 NM = 5/8 — how far after 2 h 30 min?' (24 questions, 20 minutes, described as timed-out)
- You have just completed the online aptitude tests and are waiting for results — what should you do to prepare for the remaining stages?

Group exercise
- Group exercise: Norwegian's own advert confirms a group exercise follows the company presentation on the assessment day, and candidates report being asked about it afterwards in the 2:1 ('What did you think of the group exercise?'). No candidate on the public web has described the task content itself.
- You are given a 'Jungle Crash Survival' ranking exercise during the group assessment — eight items are available to salvage. How do you approach this?
HR interview

- Talk us through what you expect from our Assessment Day.
- Why should we choose you?

- Number of spoilers (737)
- What does the block fuel consist of?

- When are you stabilised on approach (in your company)?
- Which base would you like?
- 1 strong side? (name one strength)
Simulator assessment
- Sim profile (FO, flown at Esbjerg EKEB / Stavanger ENZV, not full motion): departure and radar vectoring, raw-data ILS 2-engine, engine failure on/after go-around, holding entry called by the examiner, single-engine approach and landing. Candidate's summary: 'The sim is VERY straight forward. However, it takes alot of time trying to fly the airplane. No airwork. CRM is the most important here!!!'
- Describe the three holding pattern entry procedures and how you determine which to use.
- You are given a hold during the sim assessment and the wind is strong. How do you manage workload and maintain the pattern?
- Walk me through your technique for flying a raw data ILS to minimums.
- How do you manage localizer and glideslope deviations during a raw data ILS when the needles start diverging?
- Sim check for experienced pilots described as 'a short LOFT and an OPC. So basically your first takeoff will be without failures and you'll have a heart attack in the cabin or something like that and the OPC part is an engine failure with an upcoming non-precision (RNAV/VOR/NDB) approach. Everything will be flown with flight directors and you are free to use the autopilot as much as you like. The only thing that is flown manually is the landing phase.'
- Sim eval structure for the US/agency route (2017): candidates called out two at a time as PF with the other candidate as PM, then swapped to PM for the next incoming candidate, so the PF had no idea what to expect. 'Basically it was a simple PC type profile.'
- DEC sim profile (2013): 'DEC sim was on the -300, departure, RV to raw data ILS, Land. Then engine seizure on rotation, single engine procedural VOR approach (automatics available) to G/A then RV to FD only SE ILS to land. Bit like a mini OPC. Don't forget the command/people/management side, they want to see the whole package, it's not just about the flying.'
- Sim profile (2018 NTR FO): 'Visual circuit (no AP, or FD) followed by a landing. Then take-off with eng fail, AP and FD avail followed by a non-precision approach. They want to see good CRM. Even if both of you are totally lost on the 737, they want to see how you solve the situation.'
- Sim profile (2023 report, briefing pack sent a few days in advance): 'Expect loss of engine after v1, then manual one engine ILS approaches with and without flight director. Also some failures during climb to check how you deal with control and communication handover, checklist reading. I think these are required skills elsewhere too and they are not trying to overwhelm you, just stay relaxed and safe.'
- Sim screening as reported in 2014: 'T/O eng running on RWY with 15kt Xwind, return for ILS raw data and land. T/O with severe damage at V1, return for VOR app with A/P, go around then ILS eng out with FD no A/P to land.'
